The New York Yankees depend on Aaron Judge a lot. Not only is he the captain of the club, a good portion of their offense, but he is also the team’s DJ, hyping up his fellow teammates.

During the 2018 season, the Bronx Bombers found themselves facing off against their rivals, the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS. After losing Game 1, they won Game 2, and the Yanks could not have been happier.

Judge blared Frank Sinatra’s “New York New York” on his speaker, which did not sit well with some Boston fans. When Boston took down New York later in the series, they could not help but blare the same song, giving Judge a taste of his own medicine. However, the slugger took it in stride, via The New York Post’s Ken Davidoff.

“No regrets… That speaker will still be with me. I’ll still be playing songs after we win on getaway days. Nothing will change” said Judge.

Despite this becoming a huge story, Judge was not looking to change anything the following season. Playing the music was never to rub it in anybody’s face, it was just meant as a celebration tool, and Judge stood by that.

“For me, it’s never for the opponent. Stuff like that, I play it for our team. I play music on the bus, to, and from the bus, on the airplane. After a win, it’s for the team. It’s for nobody else except our team” said Judge.

Music is a big part of many athletes’ lives, including Aaron Judge. The right track can help motivate someone, to push themselves past their boundaries, or just set the tone for what is to come.

Outside of his job as the Yankees’ team DJ, he also works hard at figuring out which song he is going to use as he steps up to the plate.

“This is by far the toughest decision any baseball player has to make in the offseason. I make a whole playlist. I have about 30-40 songs. I’m in my car, my wife gets mad at me” said Judge.

Last year on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Judge revealed just how hard it is to pick out a walk-up song during the offseason. He revealed his painstaking process, which gets him in hot water with his wife.
