Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint have starred in multiple projects over the years but it’s pretty clear that as long as they will live, they will be known as Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The three of them have headlined eight movie adaptations of the Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowling which have grossed a combined $7.7 billion globally.
The novels have sold more than 600 million copies worldwide too. Suffice to say, the films have catapulted them to global stardom. However, it looks like their time in the limelight is going to be taken over by other actors who will star as Harry, Ron, and Hermione in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter show. So how is Radcliffe feeling about it? Pretty resigned.
Daniel Radcliffe Knew It Was Inevitable That Someone Else Would Play Harry Potter

In an interview with Deadline, Daniel Radcliffe talked about playing Harry Potter and also expressed how he feels about the upcoming HBO show that will see another actor play the titular role. The actor explained that he knew the character would become like Sherlock Holmes and as such it’s inevitable that someone else will play him.
“I don’t think— that’s the thing, that’s what’s interesting, I think Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes. Or like the people who saw Basil Rathbone play Sherlock Holmes, would have been like, ‘No one else can ever do this.’ Well, you know, they’re gonna though. So it’ll get passed onto someone else.”

The Horns actor also said that he always knew the series would get rebooted sometime down the line. The actor said:
“The weird thought I have now is there’s probably an eight-year-old kid out there somewhere whose life is going to change in a couple of years. My brain does go there… but I think the films continuing, or the series, in this case, was pretty inevitable.”
Online reception towards the upcoming HBO Harry Potter show has been mixed. Author J.K. Rowling’s controversies have tainted the announcement of the show. It is made worse by the nostalgia that fans have for the films. However, the show is still moving ahead and some information about it has been released.
The Ten-Year Plan For HBO’s Harry Potter Show

There isn’t much information about the HBO Harry Potter show, but it’s currently in development and will be released over a decade. Each season will authentically adapt the original books by J.K. Rowling. As per HBO & Max’s Content Chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, the TV series will allow for a deep dive into the iconic books. As per Variety, he said:
“The TV show is new and we’re excited about that, but, remember, we’ve been in the ‘Potter’ business for 20 years. This is not a new decision for us, we’re very comfortable being in the ‘Potter’ business.”

As for J.K. Rowling, she will be an executive producer on the show. Bloys also said that the budget will be “whatever it takes to make a quality show.” But he did compare the budget to House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. As such, it’s clear that no expenses will be spared. The show is expected to release sometime in 2025 or 2026.
All the Harry Potter films are available on HBO Max.
