The Chicago Blackhawks will have an inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Class of 2024.
That is Jeremy Roenick who has been held out of a nomination after a decade, finally got the nod.
All the while, Jeremy Roenick was one of the most electrifying Blackhawks players.
Roenick spent 8 years in Chicago, was originally the 8th pick in the 1988 NHL Draft, and between 1990 to 1994, Roenick scored 596 points(267 G, 329 A) in 524 games, with the Hawks.
But even while Roenick was one of the best Hawks players to wear the crest, one player who is continually forgotten in his production, and importance is Steve Larmer.
Jeremy Roenick had a 4-year span during which he was one of the best players on the planet. For the rest of his career, he was Very Good.
Steve Larmer produced at a higher rate, for a longer time, and was an excellent defensive player.
Roenick has a case. Larmer has a better one.
Whereas Larmer was a staple in the lineup for the Blackhawks for longer, who played 891 games with the Blackhawks scoring 923 points( 406 G, 517 A) with a career +181 plus/minus with the Hawks.
Well, that resume speaks for itself. And it has a lot to say. Larmer is indisputably one of the best players in the Blackhawks’ long and illustrious history, a model of consistency, durability and production. In 1,006 career NHL games (891 of them with the Blackhawks), he had 441 goals and 571 assists for 1,012 points. He won the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie in 1983 after his first of five 40-goal seasons. He scored at least 28 goals in all 11 of his Chicago seasons, topping 30 goals in nine of them. In 140 career playoff games (he never missed the playoffs in his career), he had 131 points. Only Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Patrick Kane have scored more goals in a Blackhawks sweater than Larmer. Only those three and Denis Savard have posted more points.<./q>
