The NHL 2024/25 season is technically already here thanks to the International Series, but the rest of the league is poised to take official action on Tuesday and Wednesday. From now on, every single game played counts towards each team’s record and their pursuit of a championship.

Naturally, the league ran a promotion for the “official” start of the season. It featured superstars young and old, with the caption saying that the “next golden era” of hockey has arrived.

Connor Bedard, Connor McDavid, Jack Hughes, and several other young stars highlighted the promo, which took aim at the notion that the younger generations aren’t as good as the older ones.

NHL fans reacted to the new ad, with some highlighting how good the commercial really is and others questioning the use of some players in a “young” star video.

“I know he technically makes the cutoff by a month, but Connor McDavid just doesn’t come off as Gen Z,” one added.

“Auston Matthews is Gen Z? Guy looks 40,” another said.

“Besides Sid, the millennials are pretty quiet hahaha,” one laughed.

“Markets the talent + the energy of the game itself,” one said.

Sidney Crosby, one of the elder statesmen of the league, came in at the end to wrap things up with a joke about “kids these days.”

NHL season is set to fully get underway

Right now, every single team, except the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres, is 0-0. The Sabres are 0-2 and the Devils are an unbeaten 2-0. Every other team has yet to play a meaningful game.

That changes tonight. Six teams will kick off their campaign on Tuesday. First, the St. Louis Blues and Seattle Kraken will take each other on. After that, the Boston Bruins and defending champion Florida Panthers will face off.

Finally, the night will end with the Chicago Blackhawks taking on the Utah Hockey Club. The rest of the league, including the Sabres and Devils, will play either tomorrow or the day after. And from now on, it is officially hockey season in the NHL.
