Miley Cyrus’ blockbuster Bangerz tour in 2014 grossed an eye-watering $116m, but the singer claims she “didn’t receive a dime”.
Miley Cyrus last embarked on an extensive world tour in 2014 with her ‘Bangerz’ extravaganza.
The US pop star, now 30, created a campy concert that was praised by critics as “weird and wonderful”, packaged with a healthy dose of twerking, outlandish costumes and over-the-top sets, including a giant tongue slide which formed as Cyrus’ grand entrance.
After completing legs in North and South America, Europe and Australia, the Bangerz tour grossed a whopping $US62.9 million ($A116 million, adjusted for inflation).
Now, as part of her ongoing TikTok series ‘Used to be Young’ – in which Cyrus divulges on moments that shaped her career – the former Disney Channel star claimed she “didn’t receive a dime” of that profit.
“It was an investment in myself. A lot of these ideas were so outlandish that no one really wanted to support me in making these pieces,” Cyrus said.
“I had big puppets, oversized beds, I came out on my own face on my tongue … I didn’t make a dime on this tour because I wanted the tour to be excellent.
“And when everyone kept saying, ‘Why are you doing this? You’re gonna do 100 shows and not make any money?’
“And I said, ‘There is no one I would rather invest in than myself.’ So I paid for it all to make it exactly what I and the fans deserved.”

Miley Cyrus said she “didn’t make a dime” from her 2014 Bangerz tour.
It was to be the star’s last large-scale world tour to date, and it comes as Cyrus recently declared she no longer has a desire to hit the road with her music, telling fans her latest album Endless Summer Vacation – her eighth studio album – would not get an accompanying tour.
“This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room. Which is the reality of life on the road,” Cyrus write on social media in May.
“These looks I’ve been turnin’ don’t travel well. The archival looks don’t fold. I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus.
“When I win, WE win. ️Even if I don’t see them face-to-face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart. I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience I love – without sacrificing my own essentials.”
