Leon Draisaitl #29 - Edmonton Oilers

According to reports from NHL insider David Pagnotta believes that the Edmonton Oilers want to sign Leon Draisaitl long-term but he may be willing.

Pagnotta had this to say about the situation:

Unless something’s changed since the start of the playoffs, it’s more likely to see a Auston Matthews-esque type of extension . . . anywhere from a three to five year extension versus a full eight.
Auston Matthews has taken a unique route when he signs contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Instead of signing an eight-year deal, he has taken four year deals at a very high AAV, which essentially maximizes his earnings throughout his career.

The hope for Oilers fans is that he will sign long-term and that will in turn convince Connor McDavid to re-sign with the organization as well.

However, there is a very real possibility that if he hits the open market than teams will be backing up the brinks truck to sign him.

One of those teams will be the Boston Bruins who have lacked a true number-one centerman since Patrice Bergeron retired.

The Bruins’ organization is one that always attracts top-enmd talent in free agency because they have a unique ability to always stay competitive. Leon Draisaitl clearly wants to win so if he feels he won’t be able to in Edmonton, he will look elsewhere and that could be with Boston.
