LeBron James on Saturday asked gaming company Activision to make his son, Bronny, a playable character in Call of Duty, and one of their LA Lakers teammates quickly expressed interest in joining the fun.

LeBron posted on X (formerly Twitter) that his son told him he wanted his own “skin” in the game. Skins are custom characters, sometimes modeled after real people, to add excitement and hype.

Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell reposted LeBron James’ tweet, adding:

“Me 2.”

Several Lakers players are known for being avid Call of Duty players.

Anthony Davis, for instance, is a popular Twitch streamer who often plays NBA 2K, Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. In 2022, he even joined FaZe Clan’s Nuke Squad for Call of Duty.

During Summer League in July, Bronny won a Call of Duty Modern Warfare III tournament at the Encore Las Vegas hotel.

However, Bronny has not matched his gaming success on the NBA court. In the preseason, he’s gone just 1-for-11 from the field, and in three games, he has the worst plus-minus on the team, with a total of minus-40.

Can D’Angelo Russell and LeBron James mesh?

D’Angelo Russell has been the Lakers’ starting point guard for most of his second stint with the team.

Despite being frequently mentioned in trade rumors since the Lakers’ 2023 run to the Western Conference semifinals, Russell has remained the team’s primary starter, starting all but seven games since rejoining the Lakers.

Former Lakers player Smush Parker commented that while Russell is the starting point guard, he may need to adjust to a more off-ball role because of LeBron James’ ball-dominant style.

In an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Parker stressed that Russell should accept more off-ball responsibilities.

“I don’t know D’Angelo too well, but I do know LeBron James’ game and he’s ball dominant … D’Angelo is a playmaker that’s used to having the ball in his hands but you have to understand that’s not your role anymore,” Parker said.

Last season, Russell was highly effective from three, shooting a career-high 41.5% on 7.2 attempts per game, and Parker believes this is where he should focus.

“You have to become a spot up shooter when you’re playing with a guy like LeBron James; almost like I had to play when I was playing with Kobe Bryant,” Parker said.

The Lakers, under new coach JJ Redick, begin their 2024-25 campaign against the Timberwolves on Oct. 22.
