Derek Settlemyre and Riley Cote are the hosts of the Nasty Knuckles podcast, which hosts primarily Philadelphia Flyers players.

Kris Versteeg was a Flyer, and he played for a year from 2010 to 2011 after winning the cup with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Settlmyre, talking about Versteeg’s short cup of coffee in Philly, yielded a funny store as “Nasty” was the equipment manager in Philadelphia at the time.

It was after the National Anthem that Versteeg would try to get Settlemyre’s attention but would show how green he was in Philly.

After the anthem, he’d ask “Dirty” for something, but forgot his nickname was “Nasty”.

Equipment managers are your friends, as they make sure your equipment is in working order, they get it ready for road trips and make sure your skates are sharpened.

Such a bad way to start off your career in a new city, especially if you have to trust someone.

I Imagine they’d share beers and tell stories about it later though, like now as, of course, friendship would grow.

Sometimes the best friendships are built in the strangest ways.
