Katie Gaudreau sends out a heartfelt goodbye to her brothers, Johnny and Matthew

On Thursday evening, the world changed for the Gaudreau family, as Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew Gaudreau were senselessly run down by a drunk driver following a wedding rehearsal dinner for Katie Gaudreau and her soon-to-be husband Devin Joyce.

Today, Katie finally mustered up the courage to speak about her brothers via her personal Instagram account, making them both a promise that will both warm and break your heart.

“To know these two was to love these two. There are absolutely no words I have to express the bond my family shared. The entire world knows there would never have been a John without Matty or Matty without John. The absolute best big brothers a little girl could have asked for. This will never be a goodbye post because I will never stop saying your names and honoring you both. I’ll take the best care of mom, dad, Kristen, Mer, Madeline, and your babies.”

Katie ultimately cancelled her wedding, which was supposed to occur on Friday, adding another layer of heartbreak to the equation. Unfortunately, instead of celebrating two lives intertwining, a drunk driver, Sean Higgins, has sent a whole family and community into mourning.

A Go-Fund Me has been set up for Matthew Gaudreau’s widow, Madeline, and their unborn son, Tripp. It had reached nearly $300,000 over the weekend and is still going strong.
