While he saw a brief stint with Toronto in 2023 playing in 4 games with the club, Fraser Minten could be poised for a bigger role come the regular season.

After a standout junior season where he scored 48 points in 43 games in the WHL, a league notorious for a more defensive and rugged style of play, Minten hopes that momentum translates into a full NHL season. He did manage to crack the roster in 2023-24 but did not register a point in what was surely a feeling out process for the 20-year old.

Dave McCarthy wrote an article for NHL.com entitled “Minten ‘very close’ to landing full-time role with Leafs” in which he spoke to Leafs Assistant GM Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser about Minten’s trajectory and his readiness at the NHL level:

”It’s just about trying to assist him toward taking that next step to being an everyday NHL player. He’s very close.”

This echoes the sentiment that Wickenheiser shared about Minten during the World Junior Summer Showcase:

”He’s just such a pro. He’s a very mature kid. He’s a leader everywhere he goes and he’s really like a sponge.”

With veterans on the roster such as John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Morgan Rielly, and Chris Tanev; Minten is sure to learn all facets of the game, which should only add to his already high leadership capabilities.

If he can learn from some of the best in the game, he could be in the game sooner rather than later.
