Are there any limits to his brilliance? See Ed Sheeran make young Melody Driscoll’s day at her hospital bedside with a cute pink guitar

Ed Sheeran made a brave little girl’s dream come true when he serenaded her during a surprise visit to Epsom Hospital .

Pop superstar Sheeran sat beside young Melody Driscoll, nine, on her hospital bed and sung hits Thinking Out Loud and Photograph – accompanied by a cute pink guitar.

Melody suffers from a number of complex problems, including Rett Syndrome – a rare, life-limiting genetic disorder causing severe physical and mental difficulties.

Last year, Melody’s mum Karina asked after Sheeran, Melody’s favourite singer, to see if he would pop along to give her the surprise of her life and sent him a video of her.

A year later, and Karina’s unlikely request remarkably came true with Sheeran, a former student of the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford , only too happy to stop by on Wednesday morning.

Said Karina: “They wanted to take her to one of his concerts but I explained that she couldn’t go because she was in hospital.

“I asked if they did one-to-one visits, and was told that he didn’t.”

It was then police officer Stuart Lawless started up a campaign to bring Sheeran to Melody’s bed side and a short while later, Karina got a call to say he was coming.

Karina got Melody dressed and told her she was going to be receiving a surprise visit. Moments later, Sheeran walked into Melody’s room on Casey Ward.

“She was just so starstruck,” Karina said. “She didn’t think he was real at first, so Ed pulled up his sleeves to show off his tattoos, because Melody loves his tattoos, and she started to stroke them.”

A Danish fan also got in touch with the family to pass on a t-shirt worn by Sheeran, which he signed for her.

It was then, on her cute pink guitar, he broke into Melody’s favourite song Thinking Out Loud before singing Photograph in full too.

“She held her arms out to him and he kept giving her hugs and gave her a kiss. He was just so gentle and loving,” added Karina.

“Ed spent about an hour-and-a-half at the hospital with her, and we knew that he genuinely wanted to be there for Melody.

“She gave him a picture of her saying thank you for making my dream come true and he said that he would keep in touch and invite Melody to a sound check so that it is just them two.”
