While a big chunk of WNBA fans are discussing Caitlin Clark missing out on the unanimous Rookie of the Year award, veteran analyst Dan Patrick has taken a different approach. The sports commentator said that in the future, with the projection that Clark has, this award and how she won it will be the least of his concerns.

In Friday’s edition of his show, Patrick talked about the impact this decision will likely have on Clark’s resume.

“My defense there — if somebody thinks Angel Reese was Rookie of the Year, fine. Maybe it’s a writer who covers her team in Chicago, okay. It’s not the end of the world. I don’t know if Caitlin Clark is going to be like, ‘Can you believe I didn’t go unanimous?’ I thought we would have unanimous MVP and unanimous Rookie of the Year. You got that with A’ja Wilson, but Caitlin Clark all but one, and I don’t think it’s going to ruin her summer.”

Patrick added that the voting process is open to interpretation but said this won’t matter as much as people think in 10 years.

“In 10 years from now do we go, ‘Yeah but she wasn’t unanimous Rookie of the Year.’ I don’t think we’ll care. I think that will be the least of the awards that she wins that we’ll be talking about.”

The ROTY award confirmed that Caitlin Clark had a much better season than Angel Reese. The Chicago Sky forward broke several records in her rookie season but didn’t have the same impact as Clark. The Indiana Fever star took her team to the postseason for the first time since 2016.

Dan Patrick said Caitlin Clark should be a contender for a bigger award this season

Caitlin Clark had a terrific rookie season and her performances put her in the conversation not only for the ROTY but also for the MVP. Dan Patrick said that after A’ja Wilson, Clark played the best basketball in the league while adding value to the competition and her team.

“I think she should be up for MVP. … A’ja Wilson is the best player in the game, not even a debate. But I’m talking about value, value to a franchise, value to a league, getting your team to the playoffs. … They [Fever] were the worst team last year,” Patrick said on the Dan Patrick Show.

Clark just finished a remarkable rookie season and we still don’t know what her ceiling is.
