Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid’s family made the trip to Chicago to cheer for him on Saturday. His sister-in-law Sarah Nanacsik shared a montage on her Instagram story featuring various moments from their weekend trip to the city.
One of the snaps Sarah posted was a photo at Soho House with McDavid’s wife, Lauren Kyle. Sarah and her sister-in-law were both looking to the side with their right arms raised as the sun shone on their faces.

Other pictures in the collection include a view of the Chicago skyline, a short video of the streets of Chicago featuring the Trump Tower and short reels from Saturday’s game. The camera briefly panned to McDavid’s brother Cameron who cheered for the the Oilers.
McDavid had a quiet night but helped the Edmonton Oilers to a last-gasp 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Oilers were 2-0 and 3-1 down before Zach Hyman scored a power play goal in the third period to give the Canadian team their first and only lead of the game, which ultimately proved to be enough.
Edmonton ended its fourth straight game on the road with a win. It has won four of its last five games, with the sole defeat against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, where it lost 5-3.
Connor McDavid’s wife reacts to his OHL jersey retirement
On Friday, McDavid’s junior team, the Erie Otters, held a ceremony to retire his jersey number. The Otters wore #97 jerseys during their warmup and McDavid read the roster. The McDavid family was honored in a special pregame ceremony where the center’s jersey was hoisted to the rafters at Erie Insurance Arena.
Lauren posted about the event on Instagram and shared her thoughts about the ceremony.
“Proud of you,” Lauren wrote.
Speaking to the press at the event, McDavid emphasized the importance of the OHL and junior hockey for discovering and training young players.
“The OHL is, I think, the best developmental league in the world,” McDavid said. “It’s highly, highly competitive,” McDavid said. “Each and every night, you’re playing against guys who’ll be playing in the NHL one day. It was absolutely vital for my development.”
McDavid played junior hockey with the Otters from 2012 to 2015. He recorded 285 points in 166 games with the Erie Otters, including 97 goals and 188 assists — the fourth-highest in franchise history.
