A Once in a Century Celebration featuring Ed Sheeran, 9th Wonder & Retta
Centennial Concert Celebration: A Night to Remember
We are gathered here tonight at the Centennial concert, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of this special occasion as a proud Duke alum. The anticipation in the air is palpable, especially knowing that we will be treated to a performance by the incredible Ed Sheeran. Growing up listening to his music has made this moment even more exciting for me, and I am genuinely looking forward to the entire experience.
Now, let’s extend a warm Duke welcome to our fellow Blue Devil and your host for the evening—Retta! What a remarkable day and year it has been for Duke. It feels wonderful to be back home, celebrating Founders’ Weekend and Founders’ Day together. Here’s to 100 more years of excellence! Let’s go, Duke!
I feel immense gratitude to have been part of this incredible institution. The fact that we’re here with Ed Sheeran is truly something special—what other school can boast such an honor? That’s right; it’s us. It’s Duke!
As the music begins, the excitement builds. The crowd erupts with cheers, shouting, “We love you, Ed!” Celebrating a hundred years of existence is no small feat, and I am proud to play a small role in the legacy of this amazing institution.
Duke has come a long way in its 100 years, witnessing tremendous change and, most importantly, significant progress. Each generation, each class of students, and every employee who has walked these grounds has left their unique mark, taking something special and making it even better. That is the true essence of what it means to be a Blue Devil. Let’s go Duke!
