Carmelo Anthony’s ex-wife La La Anthony is still using his last name despite being divorced from the NBA legend for three years. While plenty of people got used to calling her La La Anthony, some are wondering why she’s still using her ex-husband’s last name instead of going back to ‘Vazquez.’

Appearing on a panel at Fanatics Fest NYC on Saturday, Anthony explained that her son Kiyan is the reason why she hasn’t gone back to her maiden name.

“The moment of being able to buy Kiyan’s NBA jersey will be crazy,” moderator Taylor Rooks said.

“That’s why I haven’t changed my last name yet,” La La Anthony responded, via Page Six. “I’m gonna keep it around for a little while!”

La La and Carmelo Anthony dated for seven years before tying the knot in 2010. Their relationship had ups and downs, including a separation in 2017. They got back together in 2018 but La La called it quits in 2021 when she filed for divorce from the former Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks star.

They are now cool with each other, teaming up to support their kid, as he’s trying to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an NBA player in the near future.

Kiyan Anthony has serious chances to make it to the NBA after he probably spends one season in college. When asked if it would be hard for her to root for another team not named the New York Knicks, she stated it wouldn’t be that difficult.

“I’m sorry I’m going where my kid goes!” she said. “Wherever my kid is at, that’s who I’m rooting for.”

“It’s different when it’s your kid,” Anthony added. “It’s just a whole different ball game. It feels like a brand new journey that I’m going on with him.”

Despite not being under the same spotlight as other young prospects, Kiyan Anthony has established himself as a top player in high school. 247Sports has him as the No. 32 prospect in the country in 2025 and that position could be higher once he gets closer to the association.

Being the son of Carmelo Anthony, Kiyan Anthony has some big shoes to fill, but he doesn’t seem to be bothered by that.
