The Boston Celtics are fresh off a historic season, having won their 18th NBA title. With the win, they surpassed the Los Angeles Lakers’ record. With the dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the charge, Celtics fans are hopeful for a back-to-back championship.

However, there is a word of caution from veteran NBA analyst Brian Windhorst. On Friday’s episode of ESPN’s NBA Today, Windhorst shared a warning about the challenges of repeating as champions.

It’s just hard to maintain. We’ve had seven consecutive years of not having a back-to-back champion. The last time we had a back-to-back champion was the Warriors, when they had arguably one of the greatest teams of all time,” Windhorst said.

“I expect the Celtics to give a great title defense, but it’s not going to be the same once you’ve won the championship,” he added.

Joe Mazzulla Ready to Lead the Boston Celtics to Back-to-Back Championships

The Boston Celtics are gearing up for the 2024-25 NBA season. Their coach Joe Mazzulla is leading the charge with unwavering confidence in his squad. Despite Brian Windhorst expressing skepticism about the team’s chances of repeating as champions, Mazzulla remains steadfast in his belief that the Celtics can secure back-to-back titles.

On Wednesday’s episode of the Locked On Celtics podcast, Mazzulla shared his bold perspective on the upcoming season.

People’s going to say the target’s on our back, but I hope it’s right on our forehead, in between our eyes. I hope I can see the red dot,” Mazzulla said.

The Celtics will kick off the new season with a game against the Milwaukee Bucks at TD Garden on October 28. This season’s opening game is expected to set the tone for the Celtics’ title defense to build on their previous success.
