Following the Leafs’ 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, head coach Craig Berube provided an update on the injured Bobby McMann.
Bobby McMann left Wednesday’s loss to the Panthers near the end of the second period and did not return for the third period.
It is unclear when or how the injury occurred as McMann dealt with a handful of issues throughout the game including with a couple of collisions, a broken skate blade, and a blocked a Chris Tanev point shot off the knee.
Post-game, during his media availability, Leafs coach Craig Berube confirmed that McMann suffered a lower-body injury and based on his comments, will miss at least the Leafs’ next game on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
“Lower-body. Day-to-day right now. We’ll have to see tomorrow how he is, but wasn’t able to continue to play tonight”
McMann becomes the seventh forward the Leafs have lost to injury along with Auston Matthews, Matthew Knies, David Kampf, Max Domi, Max Pacioretty, Calle Jarnkrok and eighth forward overall with Ryan Reaves still serving his five-game suspension.
McMann signed a two-year extension in March of last season. His deal carries a $1.35M cap hit through the end of next season.
An undrafted free agent, McMann began his professional career in the ECHL during the 2020-21 season before finally landing an NHL deal with the Leafs for the 2022-23 season.
The 28-year-old has tallied 6 goals and 7 points through 21 games with the Leafs so far this season.
