Sir Elton John last night ridiculed tech billionaire Elon Musk as the music legend was honoured at an awards ceremony.

The Rocket Man singer, 77, made a rare public appearance as he took to the stage at the Attitude Awards to receive the prestigious Legacy Award.

And Sir Elton couldn’t help but take a swipe at the X and Tesla owner. Grasping onto the golden ‘a’ award, he quipped: Is this it? Is this the award? What does ‘A’ stand for?

‘A***hole comes to mind! But let’s not talk about Elon Musk tonight – let’s have a good time!’

Sir Elton quit X in December 2022 following Musk’s $44 billion takeover of the social media platform.

Musk said at the time that he hoped the star would return after Sir Elton blamed his decision on X’s ‘change in policy’, which would ‘allow misinformation to flourish unchecked’.

A post announcing his exit from the social media site is still pinned to Sir Elton’s X account.

It reads: ‘All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world.

‘I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked.’

Sir Elton was presented with the Legacy Award by his pal Ed Sheeran at the glitzy ceremony in a room full of showbiz stars at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.

He became the second person to be honoured with the award, after the Duke of Sussex collected the honour in 2017 on behalf of his mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales.

After a brief appearance on the stage, the hitmaker was supported by a chair as he posed for pictures with his gong.

Accepting the award he confessed: ‘I’m still happy to be a gay man, I love my husband, I love my children.’

The star told the room: ‘I’m very humbled by this award, it means a lot as a gay man.’

Musk (pictured addressing the MAGA crowd as Trump returned to the scene where he was almost killed in a failed assassination attempt) has yet to respond to Sir Elton’s comments

Commenting on his six-decade long career, he said: ‘I’m married to my work, I love music. Music saved me when I was happy, it saved me when I was miserable.’

He continued: ‘The Elton John Foundation was the real, real focus point of my life,’ and gave him ‘so much joy and so much pleasure’ to help others.

The star added that he and his husband, David Furnish, who is the CEO of the foundation have raised $600 million for the cause.

Speaking before Sir Elton appeared on stage, song-writer Ed Sheeran said: ‘Wherever the great are gathered, from Park Lane to Hollywood Boulevard, there are awards to be found for icons, legends or lifetime achievement.

‘All of them are worthy, many extraordinary. Attitude’s Legacy Award supported by Virgin Atlantic, presented tonight for only the second time in 13 years hits harder.

‘It honours not only a body of work, however impressive, not simply a career blessed with longevity however stellar, not even a life devoted to a cause however worthy.’

MailOnline has contacted Mr Musk’s Tesla company for comment.
