If a person has spent decades of their life devoted to a career goal or artistic endeavor, it would be logical to conclude that they’re proud of their efforts.

But when it comes to Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, his love of the franchise has brought one of its stars to uncontrollable laughter.

In an Oct. 18 interview on Late Night With Seth MeyersMariska Hargitay detailed how Wolf’s dedication to the Law & Order universe created a hilarious scenario.

She shared that she was on a panel at the Smithsonian with the legendary television producer when his phone rang. “It was so funny because it was at the panel at the Smithsonian and people are saying these incredibly beautiful, meaningful things and we’re all half-crying and then Dick’s phone goes off,” she said.

At this point, the Law & Order: SVU star broke into a case of the giggles, and through laughter revealed that Wolf set the theme song to the series as his ringtone. She said that everybody at the event started to laugh while Wolf scrambled to turn his phone off, and then went on to say that “it’s not that it happened once.”

“I’m sitting there going, ‘Dick, just turn off your phone.’ But he never did, and it turned into a thing,” Hargitay said. “It was so funny and charming, and it ended up adding such a beautiful kind of crazy spirit to it, it was absolutely lovely,” she continued.

Hargitay then said she thinks “we should all put [the theme song] on our phones,” causing the audience to applaud loudly.
