Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has lost cast member Molly Burnett as of this week’s season 24 finale. Burnett has been a major recurring presence on this season as Detective Muncy, who recently transferred to Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) team after a stint on the Bronx Gangs Unit. She made her first appearance on episode 2 of season 24 back in 2022 before going on to appear in 21 episodes.
This month saw a Law & Order crossover episode served as the finales for both Law & Order: Organized Crime season 3 and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 24. During the events of the episode, Muncy finally closed her case on notorious criminal Elias Olsen which led to her receiving a promotion. Per TVLine, this windfall for the character will indeed coincide with Burnett exiting the cast as a series regular.
What’s Next for Molly Burnett?
Before her stint on SVU, Burnett had cut her teeth on a variety of prominent television series. This includes brief appearances on Grey’s Anatomy and True Blood as well as a whopping 670 episodes of Days of Our Lives. She also worked her way up to her SVU role with roles on such recent crime series as CSI: Cyber, FBI: Most Wanted, and Chicago P.D.
At the time of writing, there is not much known about the projects that Burnett has coming up after the Law & Order: SVU season finale. The only officially confirmed upcoming title she will be appearing in is the thriller film New Me in which she stars opposite Aquarius‘ Emma Dumont. However, that movie is already in post-production, so the next project she will make her mark on is currently unknown.
It seems likely that her role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will lead to even bigger and better things. The show has a habit of featuring rising stars, as previous episodes have featured the likes of Bradley Cooper, Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried, and Zoe Saldaña, among others. Having an even longer role on the show will likely give Burnett’s resume an even bigger boost.
