Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson had a Saturday to remember as the two-time All-Star watched his wife Mallory become a part of Olympics folklore after her gold medal-clinching goal for the U.S. women’s soccer team against Brazil.

Mallory Swanson scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute of an intense gold medal game. Her effort helped the national team win its first gold medal at the event since the 2012 London Olympics.

While Mallory’s heroics grabbed the limelight, Dansby Swanson also claimed a personal milestone, registering his 1000th MLB career hit against the Chicago White Sox the same day.

Fox Sports put out a graphic during the Cubs’ game against their cross-town rivals to commemorate the achievements of the power couple on the same day. However, the graphic had Sophia Smith’s picture, Mallory’s national teammate, next to Dansby Swanson.

ESPN Radio host and columnist Sarah Spain was the first to notice the blunder from the broadcasters, and fans were quick to react to her post pointing out the mistake.

“Jesus, they really put Sophia Smith up there,” replied a fan.

“lol swapping Mallory with Sophia Smith is egregious,” wrote a fan.

“Mallory changed her name to Sophia apparently,” wrote another fan.

The broadcasters realized their mistake and put out another graphic, taking a sly dig at their earlier mishap.

“Talk about Damage Control,” replied a fan after the correction.

“I guess they saw your tweet,” wrote a fan in reference to Sarah’s earlier post.

“AJ said it was his fault. At least think that’s what I heard,” another fan pointed out.

A nervous Dansby Swanson supported Mallory from Chicago

Dansby Swanson was supporting his wife from Chicago as Mallory requested that the Cubs star remain with the team during their crucial games instead of taking time off to support her in France.

However, the Cubs shortstop was no less nervous watching the women’s team aspiring for a gold medal finish for the first time since 2012.

“Definitely let out some fist pumps and screams, got up off the couch and then right back into the same spot,” Swanson said on watching Mallory’s goal from the comfort of his couch.

Dansby Swanson registered two hits against the White Sox on Saturday, while also driving in a run in a 3-1 to extend his hitting streak to five games.
