Caitlin Clark’s Brilliance Overshadowed by Team’s Costly Errors

Caitlin Clark's teammates have been slammed after the Fever was beaten by the Sky

In the wake of the Indiana Fever’s narrow 88-87 defeat by the Chicago Sky, Caitlin Clark’s teammates have once again found themselves under intense scrutiny. The fans’ frustration is palpable, with many pointing to the lack of support for Clark on the court as the primary reason for the team’s struggles.

Sunday night’s game was marked by a series of errors from the Fever players, with multiple clips circulating on social media showing them dropping easy passes and missing straightforward lay-ups. This has led to a wave of criticism from fans, some of whom have not minced words.

One particularly vocal fan wrote, “Not (gonna) lie, Caitlin Clark might have some of the worst teammates in the WNBA.” Another fan echoed this sentiment, noting, “Caitlin Clark with seven assists at half. Crazy to think how many she’d have if her teammates could finish.”

Clark, the No. 1 overall pick, has been a standout player in her rookie season, but she currently averages 5.6 turnovers per game—1.7 more than any other player in the league. Some fans argue that this statistic is misleading, attributing her high turnover rate to her teammates’ inability to catch simple passes. “Clark’s teammates can’t catch; this is why she leads the WNBA in turnovers,” one fan asserted. Another added, “Her teammates literally cannot catch the simplest of passes.”

The frustration isn’t limited to the fans. Clark herself seemed visibly upset during the closing stages of the game, engaging in a heated exchange with Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides. A clip showing Clark gesturing animatedly while talking to Sides has sparked further discussion about the team’s dynamics and the support—or lack thereof—around their star player.

Despite the criticisms, Clark remains outwardly supportive of her teammates. When asked if she wished she had taken more shots late in the game, she responded, “I mean, sure, you can wish it. I’m sure there was an opportunity or two for me to probably attempt another shot there at the end, but I trust my teammates… I’m gonna give them the ball every time.” Remarkably, Clark only took two shots in the final seven minutes of the game, a surprising decision given her status as one of the best shooters in women’s basketball.

This isn’t the first time Clark’s teammates have been under fire. In a previous encounter with the Chicago Sky, fans were outraged when Clark was hip-checked to the floor by Chennedy Carter, and her teammates were criticized for not doing more to protect her.

As the Fever look to regroup and move forward, the spotlight will undoubtedly remain on how well the team can rally around their star player. For now, the pressure is on Clark’s teammates to step up and deliver, both for her and for the team’s success.
