The Los Angeles Lakers are not having much luck in the summer trade this season. They had set their eyes on a few elite players, but before the Lakers could make a move, other franchises signed them. Amid their tragic moment, Jovan Buha of The Athletic, dropped a truth bomb which might be too difficult for the franchise’s fans to accept.

In his mailbag series, the NBA insider revealed, “D’Angelo Russell and Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura, have somewhere between neutral to negative trade value across the league.”
Buha further added, “Certain teams have interest in maybe one of those guys, but there are very few if any teams that have interest in multiple of those guys, and that’s ultimately been why the Lakers have been not able to find a deal.” (At 11:04)
According to Buha, “The Lakers are in a tricky position” because they cannot make more deals as their roster is full. The franchise was determined to make positive changes to their roster, but apart from the young draft picks, they couldn’t land a deal yet. They pretty much have to lead with the same roaster that had a disappointing run last year.
Despite the trade market almost drying up, the Lakers have chalked out a different plan which would serve their purpose without hurting their cap space.
JJ Redick Reveals the Los Angeles Lakers Plan
The new head coach, JJ Redick, is already facing numerous challenges before the regular season begins. However, he appears to have a clear idea of what upgrade the Lakers need.
During his appearance on Sirius XM NBA Radio, the coach spoke about the opportunities the Lakers missed in the preseason trade and what they’re aiming for. “You certainly have to look at what I think is actually a very good roster, a very balanced roster. We’d love to, we tried, but we’d love to, at some point, get another five man, a big bruising five man,” said the former Duke. (After 1:10)
The Lakers roster is built mainly surrounding the star duo, LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Besides the pair, there is no other big man to take up the responsibility of the team. To redeem themselves, the organization needs to acquire a big man to take charge at both ends of the court.
