Matthew Tkachuk was seen at Calgary Stampede (IMAGN)
After winning his first Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, Matthew Tkachuk was at the Calgary Stampede, one of the city’s most iconic events held at Stampede Park, southeast of downtown Calgary.
The popular sports page Bar Down tweeted:
“Matthew Tkachuk is back in Calgary for the Stampede! via @FierySharky.”
NHL fans quickly started sharing their opinions after seeing Matthew Tkachuk’s presence in Calgary.
“Dude loves Calgary and never wanted to leave. Brad fumbled everything,” one fan nostalgically said, reflecting on Tkachuk’s time with the Calgary Flames.
“Kick him out of the city,” another fan said.
“Fans still cheer for Tkachuk, even after he ditched the Flames. But I guess after he beat the Oilers he became a hero… Flames fans,” a fan said.
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
“He needs to show up in Edmonton for Klondike days, would be priceless,” a fan said.
“Again, I’ve never seen a player diss a team so hard but want so badly to still be a part of it,” another fan said.
“Now if he’d have brought the Cup and used it to dispense beer like at that beach bar that would be a moment #Flames,” one fan said.
“Awesome 🙂 to bad he didn’t bring the Cup just to spite the Oiller fans there,” a fan said.
Tkachuk played a crucial role in the Panthers’ first Stanley Cup win in 30 years. Despite Florida falling short in the 2022–23 finals against the Vegas Golden Knights, they came back stronger and clinched the championship.
Matthew Tkachuk visits Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale
During a Sunday night men’s league game at Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale, Moshe Nightingale and his teammates were visited by Stanley Cup champions Matthew Tkachuk and Ryan Lomberg.
Fresh from the Panthers’ championship parade, Tkachuk and Lomberg stopped by to take photos and interact with the players before continuing their celebration. Nightingale, a lifelong Panthers fan, described the encounter as surreal.
“(Tkachuk) came down to the rink and we were banging our sticks,” Nightingale said via NHL.com. “Give people an opportunity to take some pictures.
“It’s hard to describe,” Nightingale added. “I guess the only word you can say is surreal.”
Lomberg, who signed with the Calgary Flames the next day, even performed a ceremonial puck drop.
