Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays have yet to conclude their deal. The Blue Jays want Guerrero back, but they need to pay him his desired amount. With Guerrero’s free agency not too far away, Toronto has the chance of missing one of its best sluggers.
Guerrero declined the team’s offer as he’s keen on finding something better. The All-Star is predicted to sign a contract worth close to $450 million or more. The only way for the Blue Jays to retain Guerrero is by giving him a contract right now.
Several teams will be ready to match his price if the slugger hits the free-agent market. That said, Former MLB player Harold Reynolds sees Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as a perfect fit for the Los Angeles Angels.
“We are gonna talk about where is Vlad Jr. going and I think he’s going to sign with the Angels. The Angels are on the rise again and Arte Moreno has always locked guys up. So we take it back to his old pop stopping. Not only he’s gonna get paid but it’s going to be like a home town thing for him,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds believes that the Angels will transform into a strong team, and they have already started building up. Adding Guerrero will be a strong boost for the team.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Avoids Arbitration With The Blue Jays
The Blue Jays All-Star managed to avoid arbitration with the team after they agreed to a $28.5 million settlement. Guerrero almost crossed the $30 million mark that was hit by Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani.
The good news is that the Blue Jays can do their best to retain their slugger. However, they are still $100 million apart from Guerrero’s expectation. The slugger also mentioned that he’s not ready to negotiate anything until spring training begins.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is just 25 years old and he had a promising season with the Blue Jays. Guerrero smashed 30 home runs and recorded 103 RBIs for his team. He recorded a batting clip of .323 with a .396 OBP and a .940 OPS.
