Connor McDavid’s wife opening a venture in Edmonton absolutely confirms that the superstar is extending in Edmonton

Lauren Kyle McDavid, the wife of Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, took to social media with an interesting announcement earlier this week. Lauren announced plans of a new business venture that she is opening in Edmonton in the spring. The venture will be located a few blocks away from Rogers Place. There aren’t many details right now, but it looks to be a cocktail bar and home care store of some sort:

Does this signal a McDavid extension?

This comes at an interesting time, given McDavid is able to sign an extension with the Oilers beginning on July 1, 2025. You wouldn’t think the significant other of an NHL player would want to open a business venture if that player’s contract was ending soon. Unless there’s an extension coming. The couple has already been in Edmonton for a number of years, and with the likely eight-year extension coming to be this summer, they can firmly put down their roots in Edmonton.

When Leon Draisaitl signed his eight-year, $14M AAV extension with the Oilers in September, the writing was on the wall that McDavid would be re-signing with the Oilers. After all, they have unfinished business after last season’s wrenching Stanley Cup Final loss. One wasn’t going to sign an extension unless the other agreed as well.

Now, with the news of Lauren’s new business venture, it is a certainty that McDavid will be extending with the Oilers. That extension likely happens this summer and will be the superstar forward make more than $15M annually—and he deserves every penny.
