The baseball world and MLB are in mourning after the tragic announcement that Dominican pitcher Juan Jaime passed away at the young age of 37.
Jaime, a pitcher who made several appearances for the Atlanta Braves in 2014 and ’15, died of a heart attack, according to MLB reporter Hector Gomez.
“Former Atlanta Braves right-handed pitcher Juan Jaime, who was popularly known as ‘El Lápiz,’ died at the age of 37 due to a heart attack,” Gomez tweeted.
“Jaime was a native of Madre Viega, San Cristóbal. Peace to your soul and conformity to your family.”
Juan Jaime initially signed with the Montreal Expos in 2004, right before the franchise moved to Washington, D.C., and became the Nationals.
Jaime appeared in 18 games for the Atlanta Braves during the 2014 and 2015 MLB seasons, going 0-1 with a 5.93 ERA.
Once his MLB career was finished, he headed to Japan to play for the Chunichi Dragons. Unfortunately, he was released by two teams within a month after an unsuccessful move to Mexico.
Juan Jaime Had a Brief But Notable Career In Major League Baseball
Former MLB pitcher Juan Jaime tragically died at the age of 37 after suffering a heart attack.
He played for the Atlanta Braves for two seasons in 2014 and 2015, making 18 appearances in those campaigns. His career began when he signed as an amateur free agent with the Washington Nationals in 2007.
He then pitched for their rookie-level Dominican Summer League team before briefly playing with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011.
Juan Jaime signed with the Braves in August of that year. He showed that he was ready by striking out 19 batters and walking 13 after facing 70.
During the 2014 season, he posted a 5.84 ERA in 16 relief appearances, before allowing one run in 1.1 innings over two appearances the following season.
Jaime finished his MLB career with a 5.93 ERA.
