Recently, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht shed light on James’ enthusiasm for the NFL during a practice session. Knecht revealed that LeBron’s love for playing Madden, the popular NFL video game series, is far greater than he initially imagined.
“How much he loves to play Madden. He always talks about him playing Madden, but I didn’t really know it was that much. He watches it on the plane and stuff, he watches film just like it’s basketball. It’s crazy,” Knecht said.
James’ interest in football isn’t limited to video games. He has frequently drawn parallels between his basketball career and football, even humorously referring to himself as a “football player” in recent conversations.
LeBron’s immersion in Madden isn’t just casual. In October, he announced on Instagram that he had secured a spot among the top 100 players in Madden NFL 25.

LeBron James may dominate on the basketball court, but his competitive nature doesn’t stop there. On Friday night, James took to the virtual field, playing Madden against a random opponent with the username “ricankilla722.” After the game, LeBron shared the experience on X, stating the fun he had during the matchup.
“Just got done playing ‘ricankilla722’ randomly on Madden. Got on the headset. Good game and convo, bro! Some good laughs too! lol,” James wrote.
For “ricankilla722,” playing against an NBA legend must have been a memorable experience. And for LeBron, it was just another way to unwind while proving his competitive spirit.
