The 1975’s lead vocalist Matty Healy has fueled the rumor mill about being the subject of Taylor Swift’s song ‘Guilty as Sin’ after sharing a post related to the song.
Matty Healy has reignited rumors that Taylor Swift wrote her song “Guilty as Sin” about him. On Monday, November 18, The 1975 frontman posted Annie Lennox‘s rendition of The Blue Nile‘s 1989 track “Downtown Lights” on his Instagram Story, captioning it “If you don’t know this cover, you are welcome.”
His Ex Swift also references “Downtown Lights” in the intro of “Guilty as Sin,” singing, “Drowning in the Blue Nile, he sent me ‘Downtown Lights.’ ”
Fans reacted quickly to Healy’s post, with one person writing, “matty posted downtown lights on his insta story … never beating the guilty as sin allegations.” Other fans also speculated on the connection. “Matty wants us all to be guilty as sin so he sent downtown lights to everyone lmao,” another person commented.
The speculation surrounding Healy and “Guilty as Sin” is part of a larger discussion about Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which is believed to be heavily inspired by her past and present relationships. Several other songs on the album, including the title track and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” are also rumored to be about the pair’s romance.
Healy has previously commented on the attention his personal life has received, saying in an interview on the “Doomscroll Podcast” that he’s not interested in making music about his relationships. However, his recent Instagram post has further fueled the rumors that he was the muse behind “Guilty as Sin.”
Both Healy and Swift have since moved on from their fling to new relationships. Healy is now engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, and Swift is dating Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
