Don Cherry reveals honest opinion on Toronto Maple Leafs Ryan Reaves’ hit on Edmonton Oilers defensemen Darnell Nurse which hurt him
Don Cherry, known for his heavy takes on controversy in the hockey world may be retired, but at 90 years of age he is still sticking to his old-school opinions, including the altercation between Ryan Reaves and Darnell Nurse, which lead to a five game suspension for Ryan Reaves.
The hit resulted in a five game suspension, one of the longest of this years 2024-25 NHL season. Now Reaves, faces backlash- not only from NHL reports:
Here’s an idea: Instead of suspending Ryan Reaves, the NHL should force the Leafs to play him 20 minutes per game for each of the next 10 games. Now, that would be a punishment.
But from Don Cherry himself.
Many people did not agree with the length of the suspension from the NHL Player Safety, and with Don Cherry’s old school mindset many believe he wouldn’t either, but he sure did!
“He’ll get 5.”
Cherry predicted before the NHL even handed out the discipline.
“You know it’s a funny thing. Nobody [would] ever come around like that with their head down, because the wingers would leave, and as soon as they saw you do that once they’d get you the next time.”
