It’s been reported that Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes want out of North Carolina, for a fresh start elsewhere.

According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the Hurricanes have narrowed down the suitors for Martin Necas to 5 to 7 teams.

They’ve heard from basically every team in the league. I’m told 5 to 7 teams invite intriguing possibilities for the Hurricanes. But no one’s gone up to the price that they would like to see.

Interim GM for the Canes, Eric Tulsky has set the ask high for the forward, who is coming off of his second staight 20-goal season in 2023-2024.

Tulsky has stated they’re ok keeping Necas around if their asking price can’t be met, which could end up an awkward situation, as Necas and his father have publicly stated he wants out of the organization.

LeBrun has listed the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets are teams interested in acquiring the forward.

The Hurricanes haven’t stated if any of those teams are a part of the 5 to 7 teams who are on the shortlist for the forward.

Two teams and rivals are on the opposite ends of this transaction ironically, as the Habs need Martin Necas to add to the top six to solidify their rebuild. The Habs have 24 draft picks in the next two NHL drafts, while the Bruins drawer is empty, it seems likely the Canadiens could be one of the frontrunners in the mix.

It seems unlikely, that the Bruins will have a shot at Necas however.

The last team known to be asking in on Necas was the Detroit Red Wings and could use another top-six goal scorer, especially if they lose Patrick Kane.
