Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets star, is undoubtedly one of the most excellent centers in basketball history. Last season, the Nuggets were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. However, this season, Jokic is focused on minimizing any mistakes. The Serbian basketball player has begun the new NBA season with several dominant performances. Despite this, Austin Rivers believes Jokic’s dominance is still insufficient.
During a recent appearance on the Offguard Podcast, former NBA player Rivers made a bold comparison between Jokic and New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns, stating that he considers Towns to be a better scorer than Jokic.
“Karl is a better scorer and almost every attribute of the game over Nikola. He’s an average shooter, he’s not a good three-point shooter. I didn’t say he’s a better player, I already said Nikola is the best player in the NBA, but if we are talking about offensive skillset, Karl can score more. So what does Nikola do better than him other than pass?” Rivers said.
While Rivers called Jokic the best player in the NBA, he still believes that Towns surpasses him in several abilities.
Jokic Secures Remarkable Feats Early In The 2024-25 NBA Season
Nikola Jokic has been consistently delivering remarkable performances in the 2024-25 NBA season. In a game against the Los Angeles Clippers, he showcased his incredible skills by scoring 41 points, along with 4 assists and nine rebounds.
In the following game versus the Toronto Raptors, the Serbian player recorded 40 points, 4 assists, and 10 rebounds. This achievement made him the first player in NBA history to have multiple 40-point games within the first four games of a season.
However, his most significant performance came in a recent game against the Brooklyn Nets, where he achieved a triple-double with 29 points, 18 rebounds, and 16 assists. With this accomplishment, he became just the second player in NBA history to reach that stat line, and the first to do so in 62 years. Despite Jokic’s impressive performances, NBA general managers have selected a surprising candidate as the favorite to win the NBA MVP this season.
