Even though the Canadian shows haven’t started yet, Taylor Swift fans have already started looking for hotels and places to stay during the Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift fan Kelly Hall was thrilled when she won three tickets to the Eras Tour in Vancouver. Then she started looking for hotels. Hall, who lives in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, had planned to fly to Vancouver with her husband and a friend for the weekend of the show on December 8, but the cheapest room rates were around $1,200 a night.

“We decided that if it was just a weekend, just three nights, and we were going to spend three to five thousand dollars on accommodations, it wasn’t worth it,” said Hall, who works as a financial advisor. So they did the unthinkable: “We decided to sell our tickets.”

The situation facing many Taylor Swift fans living far away is even worse, with some hotel rooms and short-term rentals in Toronto and Vancouver costing 10 times more on concert weekends than on other weekends.

Like Hall, some other fans are cutting their potential losses and selling their tickets, while others are coming up with creative solutions, including swapping spare tickets for accommodations.

Swiftie forums on Facebook are currently abuzz with people looking to swap their tickets to Toronto and Vancouver because of the high cost of accommodation, as well as asking for advice on where to stay and how to get around the high prices near the concert venue.

Another concert-goer, American Heather Cox, traveled from Atlanta, Georgia, to Vancouver for a Taylor Swift concert on December 7 after purchasing six tickets. When one of her group couldn’t make it to the show, she agreed to swap her spare ticket for a four-night stay at a Swiftie friend’s penthouse in the city’s West End.

“Hotel prices were going out of control. Then I started looking on Airbnb and again, the prices were going out of control,” the concert-goer said.
