The 52-year-old has been in a relationship with musician Adrian Newman for the past decade.
However, she proudly told viewers: “I identify as queer in a weird way.”
Dannii was the host of the award-winning BBC3 series I Kissed a Boy.
She got tearful as she described it as “surreal” that it had taken this long for a dating series for lesbian and bisexual women in the UK.
At a launch for the series presenter Dannii got emotional as she said: “This is so important.
“There hasn’t been a show for the girls in the reality gay dating world.
“It’s like we need this to happen. I’m hoping that there are parties up and down the country.
“I want this to go well, obviously. Everybody’s put everything on the line.
“I hope there are more series of this show, and more girls get the opportunity to have this experience.”
The launch show shows ten single girls matched by dating agents.
They kiss before they’ve spoken – and decide if they have chemistry or not.
The villa is based in Italy’s Masseria and features Amy from Surrey who declares she fancies Dannii.
Asked if she’s also attracted to Amy, Dannii responds: “You girls are hot. You know it. I love it. I’m here for it. Is that an answer?”
Kylie Minogue’s sister has been dating her long-term boyfriend, music producer Adrian, since at least 2014.

She previously dated Aussie-based English model Kris Smith, who is the father of her son Ethan, 13.
The singer is overseeing the action on the new BBC series I Kissed A Girl, as she returns to the Italian country home, the hub of last year’s I Kissed A Boy, this time with ten women looking for love.
With little inhibitions in sight, Dannii has warned that the series will heat up, and quickly.
The line-up includes a professional footballer, a fire-breather and a touring musician, who have also warned that they won’t hold back when it comes to their summer of fun.
She teased ahead of the first episode, which airs May 5 on BBC Three: “The girls are searching for love with inhibitions left at home, and we watch it all unfold in the sun-soaked Italian landscape.
“In my role as cupid, I always hope that an attraction sparks with such intensity that it leads to a lasting relationship, but my lips are sealed whether that happens in this series.
“One thing I can tell you is that it was the ultimate lesbian summer holiday that the girls loved, I got the feeling that they didn’t want it to end.”
While Dannii is in and out of the masseria as the host of the dating show, the singletons have admitted they want her to stick around and take part in the show.
Not only so they can flirt with the cupid-playing presenter, but choose her for a smooch in the kiss off.
Priya, 25, said: “Every time we saw her, the girls would be practically drooling – me included.”
Co-star Lisha, 22, added of her hopes to plant a kiss of the singer: “It was Dannii who was remarkably beautiful and angelic – it’s a shame I couldn’t turn around for her.”
I Kissed A Girl airs from May 5 on iPlayer and BBC Three
