The iconic teenage wizard’s story is on its way back to screens in an HBO Max series
Daniel Radcliffe has addressed the possibility of whether or not he’ll star in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series for HBO Max.
The epic series was first announced back in April 2023 but as of yet, mystery continues to surround when the show will debut as well as who will star in the project.
One thing that is for sure is that author JK Rowling will work closely with show bosses as to what will be included in the Harry Potter series.
Rowling will serve as an executive producer on the HBO series while her production company Brontë Film and TV is producing in collaboration with Warner Bros Television, according to Deadline.
None of the three leading stars of the films – Radcliffe, Emma Watson or Rupert Grint – are billed to appear in the series and all three have distanced themselves from the author over her views on transgender issues.
Rowling has been vocal in her support for biological women’s rights, something that Radcliffe revisited in an interview just a few weeks back.

Radcliffe said it made him “sad” to hear Rowling has taken such a stance and that the pair haven’t spoken in years.
He also reaffirmed that Rowling’s views did not reflect everyone in the Potter franchise – although the author didn’t appear too upset when she remarked upon the cast’s opposition to her stance at the time.
Now, Radcliffe has been quizzed on whether he can put their differences aside and reunite on the untitled Harry Potter series.
“I don’t think so,” he began to E! “I think they very wisely want to (have) a clean break.

“And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it. I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”
However, Radcliffe refused to completely rule out the possibility when asked what his answer would be if HBO offered him a part.
“I’m gonna be a politician about this and not deal in hypotheticals,” he quipped to the publication.
Rowling, on the other hand, was full of excitement when she was confirmed to be boarding the HBO Max project.

In a statement at the time, Rowling said [via Deadline]: “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me.
“I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”
It had been rumoured that the series would focus on one book in the franchise per season.
However, HBO boss Casey Bloys has since claimed it will run for a staggering 10 seasons, putting that theory to rest.
