Matty Healy seemed to take aim at Taylor Swift during a recent interview as he said he doesn’t plan to write about any ‘casual’ relationships in his next 1975 album
The 1975’s frontman Matty Healy seemingly took a savage swipe at Taylor Swift during a recent podcast interview as he discussed the inspirations for his coming album.
In Taylor Swift’s latest release, the 34-year-old pop singer blasted Matty Healy after sharing a brief fling together following her breakup with her long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn. And while many listeners expected the release to be all about her long-term relationship, many were stunned as she released a number of scathing hits that seemed to take aim at Matty including the title-track The Tortured Poets Department, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, and Fresh Out the Slammer.
And while Taylor aired out her grievances with their whirlwind romance with the world, Matty said that he doesn’t plan to write about any “casual” relationships in his next album. During a guest appearance on the Doomscroll Podcast, the 35-year-old singer teased: “I just naturally make melodically quite relatable music. So, my next record will be, hopefully, an enjoyable 1975 record, objectively. And it will be about what my records are always about — love, sex, death, communication, all the big things.”
He then seemed to reference Taylor as he said: “You know, if I made a record about all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons or whatever it may be that I’ve kind of become known for just because I was famous, I think that’s an obvious thing to draw from. I’m just not interested in it… the idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me that, by the time I put it out, is gonna be, like, two years old — I see people doing that, as well, and it’s just not interesting.”

Matty also seemingly acknowledged that because of his breakup with chart-topping singer he “became a way more well-known public figure.” After Taylor’s series of diss tracks released, Matty was asked by a reporter on the street “How would you rate your Taylor diss track compared to the 30 others?” To which he simply replied: “I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”
Matty went on to add that he will be focusing his songwriting on other “subjects that I’m really interested in” but revealed that “there’ll be some kind of love songs on there.” But unfortunately for long-time 1975 fans, Matty also confirmed that he and the band are not planning on going on a huge promotional tour as they’ve done in the past. The British rocker’s upcoming album would mark his sixth studio album with the band following the major success of their last release 2022 ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language.’
