The Toronto Maple Leafs are back at practice on Tuesday morning and one Leafs reporter has revealed the latest updates on John Tavares, Joseph Woll.
It was a bit of a good news/bad news scenario for the Maple Leafs on Tuesday morning at Ford Performance Centre ahead of Leafs practice. Following a Thanksgiving long weekend, which provided players with an extra day or two’s worth of rest, the Leafs were back on the ice on Tuesday, with a couple of surprises to take note of.
First, Joseph Woll took to the ice ahead of the team’s practice, which, I’m sure, is music to the ears of the Leafs’ faithful.
Don’t start celebrating too soon, though, Leafs Nation. Woll’s skate was very brief and he left the ice not long after he got out there, so it could be a sign that the team is being extra cautious with the young netminder. It also could he a potential sign of a setback, which would not be ideal for Woll nor the team.
While there are some concerns over Woll’s very brief session, there is some good news to report from Ford Performance Centre, being that former captain John Tavares was back on the ice ahead of practice, with the intention of joining his teammates for the full session.
Tavares missed Saturday’s home opener with an unspecified illness, and there were some reports suggesting that the ailment was bothering him even prior to the New Jersey game on Thursday, so it’s certainly nice to see the veteran pivot turning a corner here and nearing full health.
The Leafs are 2-1-0 to begin the 2024-25 campaign, and while Tavares was never truly at risk of missing extended time, the concerns about Joseph Woll’s health persist. Hopefully the team will provide updates on both Tavares and Woll following practice with their game against the Los Angeles Kings will take place tomorrow evening at Scotiabank Arena.
It’s worth noting that Woll is not eligible to come off of injured reserve until Thursday. Tavares remains eligible to play, if he has recovered from his illness and the team clears him to return.
