Since joining the Cleveland Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell has been working hard to cement his legacy with the team. The Cavaliers clearly see his value, securing him with a three-year, $150.3 million contract extension this year. However, despite the lucrative deal, Mitchell feels his athleticism and abilities aren’t fully appreciated.
Mitchell recently joined Carmelo Anthony on his ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ show, where he claimed that he ranks among the top 10-15 players in the NBA. Nevertheless, he believes he doesn’t get the respect for being unable to reach the conference final yet.
“Realistically, I look at myself in the top 10, top 15 players in this league. But I haven’t made it to a conference final. So for me to make that jump, I can’t sit here and get mad. I can sit here and get mad and use it as fuel,” Mitchell said.
“It’s an accolade-based world we live in, whether it’s right, wrong, or indifferent. For whatever reason, that’s just what it is,” he added.
Donovan Mitchell’s Stats With the Cavaliers
Donovan Mitchell became a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the 2022–23 season. In his debut season with the team, he showcased his scoring ability by averaging 28.3 points per game, along with contributing 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists.
Mitchell’s second season with the Cavs was also notable. He averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. His efforts helped Cleveland to a 48-34 record, securing fourth place in the NBA Eastern Conference standings.
Before joining the Cavaliers, Mitchell spent his entire NBA career with the Utah Jazz, where he first made a name for himself as a top-tier scorer and playmaker.
