NHL fans took to the internet to react to Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson’s unusual dietary choice of taking raw frozen liver shots.

Bardown and TSN shared a reel on Instagram titled “A day in the life of Jake Sanderson,” where he introduced this unique habit, pairing the liver shots with maple syrup.

Fans quickly chimed in, drawing comparisons with former Sens’ Jakob Chychrun’s similarly unconventional diet. Meanwhile, Chychrun joined in on the fun by reposting Sanderson’s clip on Instagram, captioning it:

“Might have to take credit for this one my brother @_jakesanderson #proud.”

The clip has sparked plenty of reactions among NHL fans on X/Twitter about Sanderson downing raw liver shots. One tweeted:

Jakob Chychrun and Jake Sanderson spent two seasons together with the Senators before Chychrun was traded to the Washington Capitals last month.

Chychrun, known for his intense workout regimen, has also extended his commitment to fitness by adopting a similarly rigorous diet. His reputation for maniacal workouts on the ice is complemented by his choice to incorporate unconventional foods, like frozen liver shots, into his nutritional plan.

Speaking about his unique diet, Chychrun said (via B/R Open Ice):

“I’m also eating raw liver, raw beef heart, doing all this crazy stuff. The taste is awful, but your body almost craves it when you eat it consistently because it’s just so nutrient dense.”

It’s no wonder where Jake Sanderson got the inspiration for his unique diet.
