Michela Cava opens up on PWHL Minnesota’s inaugural Walter Cup win
PHWL Minnesota’s clutch queen, Michela Cava, scored the second goal of the night in their historic Walter Cup victory. Last year’s PHF playoff MVP opened up on the toughly contested Finals series.
“Our team battled every game,” she told the Star Tribune. “We all grinded it out and stuck together. I’m proud of everyone. It’s been an amazing journey.”
Cava expressed pride in her teammates for their collective effort, sharing that they had faith in each other throughout their campaign.
“People believed in each other every single shift,” she said. “I’m really proud of the group.”
Minnesota’s Liz Schepers scored the first goal in the second period of the night and Michela Cava added another in the third. It was Kendall Coyne Schofield who sealed the victory with an empty-netter.
The inaugural season of the PWHL saw a record crowd of over 21,000 fans for a game in Montreal and an average attendance of 5,448.
As the league looks to expand its schedule to 30 games next season and finalize team names and logos by August, it seems PWHL has a bright future in the world of women’s professional sports.
