The Pittsburgh Penguins core for the longest time has been Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, but now it’s becoming clear that they are on their final legs. Crosby is a free agent next summer, and now, Malkin has revealed that while he wants to retire in Pittsburgh, he is very understanding if the team wants to move on and start fresh.

At 37-years of age, Malkin may not have too much gas left in the tank, but after 83 and 67 points over the past two years, he can still contribute, and with the team actively trying to sign Crosby beyond his current deal, it appears they still believe in their star trio. Whether that lasts beyond this season if they once again fail to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs is up in air, but if Malkin were to ever pull on another NHL jersey, it just wouldn’t feel right, so the expectation is that the Penguins will keep all three until they retire.
