The singer and his wife of six years indulged in some rare PDA at the fashion event as they had a cozied-up date night — on Seaborn’s birthday!

A lifetime of love between Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn doesn’t stop the two from still sharing awkward moments — and on her birthday, no less!

The married couple and parents of two attended the 2024 Met Gala for the first time on May 6 and looked as in love as ever, even after their silly smooch in front of cameras. It seems as though Sheeran, 33, went in for a sweet peck just as his wife couldn’t contain her laughter as she smiled mid-kiss. The couple, who were also celebrating Seaborn’s 32nd birthday on Monday, later posed for a more serious snapshot.

While the pair didn’t walk the carpet together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, they did stick to the “Garden of Time” dress code for this year’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme. Sheeran opted for a baby blue monochromatic suit with satin silver accents and an undone bowtie to top off his look for the evening. Meanwhile, Seaborn wore a sheer white off-the-shoulder gown decorated with floral details.

Sheeran and Seaborn are known to keep their high-profile relationship low-key. The two were last spotted out on a rare date night in Soho, London, back in April and on another dinner date just a month before that.

The couple, who grew up together, didn’t start dating until the summer of 2015, when they reconnected and had their first date at Taylor Swift’s Fourth of July party. They secretly got married in December 2018 during an intimate ceremony, but Sheeran didn’t confirm the big news until July 2019 during an interview with iHeart Radio’s Charlamagne tha God.

The singer disclosed the couple’s nuptials as he explained mentions of Seaborn in his 2019 song “Remember the Name,” where he says, “Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted / My wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick.”

“It was actually before me and Cherry got married, and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out,” Sheeran said of the song’s lyrics. “[I thought] Someone’s gonna hear that and be like, ‘Oh, they’re married!’ I didn’t know how that would be construed, but obviously it’s already come out.”

The couple are now parents to two daughters – Lyra, 3½, and Jupiter, 2 this month.
