Roy Jones Jr. Volunteering to Replace Mike Tyson in Bout Against Jake Paul
In an unexpected turn of events, American boxing sensation Roy Jones Jr. has expressed his willingness to step in for Mike Tyson and face Jake Paul in an upcoming bout.
The highly anticipated boxing match between Tyson and Paul, scheduled to be live-streamed on Netflix, has been postponed due to a medical emergency experienced by Tyson, aged 57, during a recent flight from Miami to Los Angeles.
Reports from The Express indicate that Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up during the flight, rendering him physically unfit to compete against Paul. In light of this, Jones Jr. has voiced his readiness to fill Tyson’s shoes in the ring.
“I’m considering that possibility. I might start getting into shape in case it happens. Perhaps I’ll prepare myself for that,” Jones told Betway.
Notably, Jones Jr. and Tyson shared the ring four years ago in an unscored exhibition match, where they engaged in eight rounds of boxing.
Reflecting on the situation, Jones Jr. stated, “I never thought about it before, but given the circumstances, I think it’s a great idea. I’ll make sure to be in shape because if the fight falls through, I believe I’m the ideal candidate to replace Mike Tyson against Jake Paul. If the opportunity arises, count me in.”
Furthermore, Jones Jr. emphasized the significance of a potential matchup with Jake Paul, acknowledging it as one of the most significant fights of the decade.
Meanwhile, Tyson aims for the rescheduled fight against Paul to take place between October and December.
In a message to his fans, Tyson expressed gratitude for their support and understanding during this challenging time. Despite the setback caused by his ulcer flare-up, Tyson assured fans that he would return to his full training schedule soon. He concluded with a warning to Paul, affirming his determination to deliver a memorable performance and secure victory in their anticipated matchup.
Responding to Tyson’s message, Paul assured fans that he would be prepared to face Tyson at his best, promising to bring his A-game to what he believes will be an unforgettable showdown.
As the boxing world awaits further developments, the possibility of Jones Jr. stepping in for Tyson adds an intriguing dimension to the narrative surrounding the Tyson-Paul bout, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the outcome of this potential substitution.
