Slate of hockey legends get inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame 2024 class

The NHL has made a memorable announcement on Tuesday revealing new names that are inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Forwards Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick and defensemen Shea Weber are the NHL players entering the 2024 class. On the women’s side, Natalie Darwirtz and Kirssy Wendell-Pohl, a Pittsburgh Penguins scout, have both been inducted.

Longtime vice president of hockey operations has been inducted as a ‘builder’, alongside Capitals and Predators general manager David Poile.

Patrick Marleau was not inducted but nominated, meanwhile Datsyuk and Weber have gotten in on their first try- Roenick waiting 12 years for it.

The list comes with controversy, with a NHL reporter not happy with Roenick’s induction.

Doing a proper ghost committee at The Athletic the last few years has given me an appreciation for this process. But: Jeremy Roenick never won the Cup, never won an NHL award, was never a First OR Second All-Star team, and finished T6 in the league in scoring in his best season.

Did Roenick deserve it?
