The meeting between LeBron James and Lorenzo Insigne has gone viral online – and it’s easy to see why.
Italian footballer Insigne’s 12-year stint with Serie A side Napoli recently came to an end after he jumped ship to the MLS, penning a four-year deal with Toronto FC.
Given his status among football fans, the 31-year-old has been shipped around on a press tour, meeting all sorts of familiar faces since his arrival on American shores.
But it seems his recent catch-up with an NBA megastar has got plenty of people talking.
Insigne was lucky enough to come face-to-face with basketball royalty LeBron James.
The rather pleasant exchange between the two sports stars was posted on Insigne’s Instagram story and eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice something.
As 5-foot-4-inch Insigne looked up and shook 6-foot-9-inch LeBron’s hand, you can see just how different in size they are.
In one screenshot posted by ESPN, Insigne’s hand barely wraps around LeBron’s index and middle fingers.
In response to the post, one fan replied: “Why you gotta do my man like that?”
While another commented: “Shaking a baby hand.”
As a third added: “Is Insigne standing or sitting?”
Insigne certainly would have known who LeBron is – I mean, who doesn’t?
But it turns LeBron almost definitely would have recognised Insigne too.
The Los Angeles Lakers megastar is reportedly a huge football fan and even holds a minority ownership stake in Premier League giants Liverpool.
LeBron bought a two per cent stake of the Reds with his business partner Maverick Carter back in 2011, which has since multiplied given the team’s recent successes – meaning his investment has seen him rake in a fair bit of cash.
In 2021, 10 years after his initial investment, LeBron officially became a partner in the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) along with RedBird Capital Partners.
