Welcome to Our Home Tour

A couple of years ago, we welcomed a new addition to our family. At just over two years old, he certainly runs the house, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

This space was originally my formal working area. About a year ago, I transitioned to a new office, and this room became your office. It’s been great to see her find a workspace that truly fits her needs, and the space feels much cleaner now that it’s hers.

We absolutely love this room. One of our favorite features is the Apparatus Studio light fixtures. They add a unique touch to the space and provide a beautiful view of the outdoors, which is always a pleasant addition while working. Of course, we can’t forget our favorite coffee table book, Architectural Digest.

Let’s move to the TV room. It’s where we spend our off days, watching Sunday football or catching up on episodes of Friends. This room is perfect for lounging and recovering after a busy week. It’s also the gathering spot when we have guests over. Our enormous couch comfortably seats everyone, and our TV, concealed behind steel panels, slides open when we want to watch it. We love how the steel panels have developed a patina that complements our decor.

Next, we transition to the dining room, where we host many team dinners and family gatherings. The spacious table is perfect for large meals and making the most of our time with loved ones. Behind a discreet door is one of our favorite features—a hidden bar, which adds a touch of surprise and elegance to the room.

Our kitchen is a standout feature of the home. The large island is central to our gatherings, making it a hub for family and friends. Laura, an exceptional cook, is even working on a cookbook, and I’m proud to be her recipe tester. We opted for a black and white monochromatic palette with earthy accents to maintain the sleek, clean lines of the architecture. The fridge, featuring a Roy G. Biv color scheme, is a playful nod to our personalities.

Let’s step outside. While it’s a bit chilly now with winter approaching, our indoor-outdoor space is a favorite. Leonard, our dog, uses it as his snow bed when it’s cold, but it’s a great spot for us to enjoy when the weather permits.

Welcome to the basement! We aimed for a speakeasy vibe here due to the lack of natural light. The moody feel, accented with pops of color, is perfect for this space. One of our new favorite additions is a sign inspired by Kyle Richard’s house, which Leonard seems to approve of as well. Our wine collection has grown over time, though we started by simply picking bottles with interesting labels. The colorful artwork by Florai ties everything together beautifully.

The pool table is a highlight of the basement, providing endless entertainment when friends are over. The portraits of Andy Warhol, Jimi Hendrix, and Jack Nicholson add character and intrigue to the space, with their stories subtly integrated into the artwork.

Moving on to the guest room, it’s often the most sought-after space when friends come to visit. It’s a cozy retreat with minimal light, ideal for guests who enjoy sleeping in. The expansive en suite bathroom is a fun space with bold tile choices that make it stand out.

The theater room is perfect for lazy days. With its comfortable setup and popcorn machine, it’s a private movie experience right at home. We each have our preferred snacks—he’s a fan of licorice and raisins, while I stick to the classics.

The sports court is one of my favorite parts of the house. During the winter, it’s a fantastic place to stay active with rollerblading, hockey, or basketball. We replaced the old, bulky stairs with foldable ones, making the space more usable despite their steepness.

The gym is a room I frequent often. During quarantine, it became a hub for my teammates who were training and rehabbing. The gym’s view into the sports court adds to its appeal, and the steamer is a great way to unwind after a workout.

Upstairs, we have a cozy reading nook that connects to the hot tub patio. This space, with its fireplace and concealed TV, is perfect for relaxing. The patio, with its view of Edmonton’s river valley and the nearby dog park, is another favorite spot. Leonard often keeps watch while we enjoy the hot tub, and Laura’s painting adds a personal touch to the space.

Finally, our bedroom features a custom-built bed and a TV that rises from the foot of the bed—ideal for watching shows before sleep. The photo wall showcases family, friends, and plenty of Leonard. The bathroom is spacious with a large shower and tub, perfect for relaxing after long days. Although we’re considering adding a door to retain warmth in the chilly Edmonton winters.

The closet is one of my favorite areas, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent. It’s bright, open, and a perfect showcase for our clothing. I have my section with suits and shoes, thanks to my partnership with Adidas, which keeps me well-stocked.

Off our bedroom is a patio that we use frequently. While we spend our summers in Toronto, we enjoy the heated, cozy space during the colder months. Our two-person infrared sauna is a daily retreat, thanks to Laura’s Finnish heritage, which inspired this essential addition.

Thank you, Architectural Digest, for joining us on this tour. It’s been a pleasure having you, but it’s time for us to take Leonard to the dog park. See you next time!
