Now that the Edmonton Oilers have let go of two of their top young players due to offer sheets from the St. Louis Blues, Stan Bowman has revealed how he truly feels.
Stan Bowman and the Oilers decided not to match the two offer sheets they received from the Blues for Philip Broberg Stats and Dylan Holloway, which means the team is now getting a second-round and a third-round pick as compensation.
Initial signs appeared to show that the Edmonton Oilers had plans to match the offer sheets when they traded Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks for Ty Emberson, however it appears that move was solely done to give the team cap space, which they desperately need.
Stan Bowman has finally given the public some information regarding everything that went down. Insider Gene Principe revealed some of that information.
It appears that Stan Bowman didn’t match these offers as the team may need that flexibility should they have to make moves down the road as they want to be major contenders for the Stanley Cup once again. Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg haven’t truly proven themselves at the NHL level yet, so the team wasn’t ready to fully commit to them, especially with the overpay that the Blues offer sheet consisted of.
Philip Broberg is the 8th overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft and only has 81 games of NHL experience in three seasons. He has only scored 13 points and barely averages 13 minutes of ice-time a night. He did impress the Blues by the way he played in the playoffs, which is what likely tempted them to submit the offer sheet.
Dylan Holloway is slightly younger than Philip Broberg and was selected with the 14th overall pick. He only has 89 games of NHL experience over the last two seasons and has been sent down to the AHL on multiple occasions, having played with the Bakersfield Condors. Holloway has only registered 18 career points, but the Blues are confident he can be one of their best players going forward.
