Nigerian superstar, Ayra Starr is making waves on a global scale, gracing the stage as the special guest for the Detroit-Michigan leg of Chris Brown’s highly anticipated “11:11” tour. One of the highlights of the said event was her impressive performance of “Goodbye,” where the audience was treated to her soulful vocals and dynamic stage presence. This is a landmark achievement for the young singer, further solidifying her position as one of Afrobeats’ brightest talents.

Ayra Starr isn’t the only rising star joining Chris Brown. R&B songstress Muni Long is also part of the rich lineup, creating a dynamic and diverse opening act experience for audiences. The tour will see Brown performing in 26 cities across the United States and Canada, bringing his signature blend of R&B and pop to fans. It kicked off in Detroit on June 5 and concludes on August 6 in Los Angeles.

2. Pharrell Williams unveils trailer for LEGO-themed biopic

Pharrell Williams has unveiled the trailer for his upcoming biopic, titled “Piece By Piece,” which will depict his life story using LEGO animation. The trailer, which dropped on June 6, offers a playful glimpse into the film’s concept. It opens with a LEGO version of Pharrell pitching the idea to director Morgan Neville, known for his Oscar-winning documentary “20 Feet From Stardom.” Pharrell’s enthusiasm is infectious, and the trailer promises a vibrant and colorful journey through the musician’s life, from his Virginia roots to his reign as a music industry powerhouse.

“Piece By Piece” won’t just be a visual spectacle. The film will also feature a star-studded cast, with Pharrell voicing his animated counterpart. Music fans can expect to see (or rather, brick-ify) other iconic figures who have collaborated with Williams throughout his career. The trailer also hints at brand-new music composed specifically for the film. “Piece By Piece” is slated to premiere on October 11.

3. New autopsy reveals drug reaction as possible cause of Mohbad’s death

A new autopsy has shed light on the possible cause of Afrobeats singer, Mohbad’s death in September 2023. The autopsy, conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), revealed the presence of diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in the late singer’s system. However, the concentration of the drug was not considered fatal. Diphenhydramine is commonly used to treat allergies, stomach issues, colds, and anxiety.

While the autopsy identified an injury on Mohbad’s right arm and moderate to severe decomposition due to the exhumed state of the body, it did not pinpoint a definitive cause of death. The toxicology report suggests a potential for a fatal allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) or another drug reaction. The investigation into Mohbad’s death is ongoing, with authorities examining the possibility of a medication reaction contributing to his passing.

4. Kendrick Lamar announces Juneteenth ‘The Pop Out Ken & Friends’ Los Angeles concert

Kendrisk Lamar is gearing up for a special performance in Los Angeles this Juneteenth. Titled “The Pop Out—Ken and Friends,” the concert will be held at the Kia Forum on June 19. The event, hosted by pgLang and Free Lunch, is Lamar’s tribute to Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Tickets for the all-ages show go on sale on June 7, at 10 AM PT on Ticketmaster. There was an exclusive presale for Cash App Card holders on June 6.

The concert’s title, “The Pop Out,” is a reference to a lyric from Lamar’s recent song “Not Like Us,” where he raps, “Sometimes you gotta pop out and show n***as / Certified boogeyman, I’m the one that up the score with ’em.” This song was part of an ongoing musical feud with Drake. While details about the surprise guests are under wraps, considering the location and Lamar’s vast network of collaborators, fans can expect some big names from the West Coast hip-hop scene to join him on stage.

5. Chelsea sign ex-Fulham defender Adarabioyo

Chelsea FC have secured their first signing of the summer transfer window, bringing in center-back Tosin Adarabioyo, from fellow West London club Fulham, on a free transfer. The 26-year-old defender has signed a four-year contract that begins on July 1. Adarabioyo expressed his excitement about returning to his childhood club. “Chelsea is a huge club and this is a full-circle moment for me,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go.”

The signing comes as Chelsea look to solidify their defensive options following the departure of veteran Thiago Silva. Adarabioyo brings experience to the backline, having played 78 times in the Premier League across stints with Fulham and Blackburn Rovers. Adarabioyo is the first player to join Chelsea since the announcement of new head coach Enzo Maresca earlier this week.
