Marvel’s Simu Liu weighed in on J.K. Rowling’s “anti-trans rhetoric,” saying that he doesn’t like what the famed Harry Potter author has become. Fans online appreciated that the actor commented on the matter.

In a BuzzFeed post on Threads where the magazine asked netizens about the celebrity they used to be a fan of but aren’t anymore, Liu commented:

“I’m really not feeling JK Rowling’s online discourse. I think the internet often jumps to conclusions and piles on to people who do not deserve it… but she has been repeatedly doubling down on some really dangerous anti-trans rhetoric that has really affected people in my life, including close friends.”

The actor further noted that while he loves Harry Potter, he hates cyberbullying, and “very much dislikes” what J.K. Rowling has become.

After Simu Liu’s comment, fans were quick to share their appreciation for him speaking out about the British author, who recently criticized Algerian boxer Imane Khelif publicly amid gender controversy.

“I guess I’m glad he at least commented. There are a lot of folks who haven’t stated a lukewarm dislike or anything else,” a Reddit user wrote.

“I know he’s going to get sh*t, but this is one of the most high profile people to explicitly say she’s dangerous,” another user mentioned.

“I won’t knock him for this, so many other celebrities still follow her, and rarely is she publicly called out by other celebrities so good for him for saying something on this platform,” another one said.

More netizens shared their positive comments on the actor’s take on J.K. Rowling, with others agreeing with what Liu said.

“You know what? After his tole on the other two and this, I think Simu Liu has rehabilitated his image,” a user on X wrote.

“100% same. I actually feel sick whenever I see the books, movies, or merch promoted, because of where some of the profits end up, and what they fund,” a Thread user wrote.

“It’s really sad, isn’t it? She was such an important part of our lives. The Harry Potter books were all about acceptance and overcoming adversity to be who you were meant to be and she tarnished all of that.” another one wrote.

Simu Liu isn’t the only one to call out J.K. Rowling’s recent “anti-trans” discourse

Besides Simu Liu’s recent comments about disliking the famous British author’s “anti-trans rhetoric,” other netizens also called out Rowling for her remark on the female Algerian Boxer at the Olympics as the author referred to her as a man.

On August 1, Rowling shared a statement on X about boxer Imane Khalif’s supposed “smirk” in a viral picture, saying:

“Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered”

Commenters asked Rowling to “stop spreading false information” and “stirring up hatred.” Others called for her to have a “sliver of self-awareness,” with many coming in defense of Khelif.

Actor Billy Baldwin simply asked the author in the comments what was wrong with her.
